Talk to me if:
you want to chat with someone who knows fitness and understands the industry. I can help you understand how the fitness industry can benefit you personally and once that is clear I will then show you how NZIHF can accomodate your goals and assist you in changing your lifestyle.
I have spent my entire life surrounded by sport in some way, shape or form. I have been involved in both the serious and social side of the competitive spectrum - as an elite semi-professional middle distance runner as well as being competitive in triathlons; right down to social hockey and soccer. I have also been involved on a coaching level, helping top flight amateur and professional soccer teams with high performance fitness coaching. And then finally, I have been working in the industry for over 10 years now with experience in corporate health care, personal training, fitness equipment sales, sports club management and have even had a stab (once upon a time) at owning a gym in the Auckland CBD! What can I say - I love this game!
I obtained my Sports Science degree from the University of Johannesburg back in 2001 (yes I am South African, please don't hold that against me) but was recruited by the Sports Director in 2000 to start my working life managing the University's Soccer Club. I then got a rush of blood to my head and got lured into the promise of fast cars and fancy money in the pharmaceutical sales industry and soon woke up from a bad dream to realise that fitness was where it's at and quickly started building up a successful personal training business. In 2005 my wife and I started up a Corporate Health and Wellness Business where we got ourselves involved with finding healthy solutions to the unhealthy corporate lifestyles that the everyday South African (and world citizen for that matter) finds them self a part of. We sold that up in 2008 before making the long haul flight across to New Zealand with our 9 month old daughter to start a fresh life and expand our family, welcoming our son into the world a couple of years ago. It was here, in New Zealand, that I gathered a bit of Fitness Equipment Sales experience before moving into the more civilized world of Fitness Education.
Apart from the obvious social and networking skills that I developed during my earlier University days, I would have to say that I look back and appreciate my involvement with the high performance sports centers that formed a large part of my post graduate studies and research.
