How will my skills and knowledge be assessed?

There are written assessments throughout your NZIHF Fitness Professionals Handbook.  These are usually short written tasks to ensure you are learning the content of the programme well.  Help on written assessment is available during scheduled ‘pit stop’ tutorials and from your personal skills coach who will spend up to forty hours helping you and ensuring you are progressing well.

Practical assessments are conducted by your personal skills coach at mutually agreed times when you both feel your skills have reached a point where you will get value from being assessed.  The practical assessments are based around the real world tasks of a trainer and exercise consultant and are a very valuable learning opportunity.  Graduates of the programme have significant confidence in their skills due to this approach.

When can I enrol?

  • Enrolments are open so you can enrol anytime.
  • A new programme intake usually occurs each month in each region.
  • Each intake involves a new set of students getting together to work through the small group tutorials and programme.
  • Small group tutorials are two hours often in the evenings but daytime and even mornings are sometimes available on particular intakes.
  • Programme intakes are limited to 12 students to ensure your needs can be met and your learning is optimised.

What must I attend?

The small group tutorials are compulsory although there is some provision for ‘catch up’ sessions if you have to miss a tutorial due to commitments beyond your control.  We find students tend to use all elements of the programme as they enjoy the environment and learn well in small groups as well as through one to one coaching.

To be awarded the qualification at the end of your programme you will also need to complete first aid training through another provider achieving unit standard 6401 and 6402.  We can only award the qualification to students who hold first aid as it’s an industry requirement that fitness professionals are first aid trained and therefore it is a requirement within the national qualification also.  We can provide you with a list of regional first aid providers at the time of your enrolment.

The aim of the programme is to ensure you develop the skills and knowledge required to pass the assessments which ensure you are customer ready at graduation.
